Mallorca: Almond Blossom and Natural Magic

From late January to around mid-March, the Mediterranean island transforms into a sea of pink blossoms. If you travel through the countryside during this time of year, you’ll experience a breathtaking natural wonder.

With sunshine and temperatures of around 60 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit, the conditions are just right for the buds of the famous Mallorcan almond trees, which begin to open at this time and transform into magnificent white and pink clouds. This natural spectacle has been appreciated by many tourists for years, who visit the island to witness it.

According to representatives of the island's agricultural department, more than 7 million almond trees grow on the Balearic Island.

Almond tree plantations, which release a delicate fragrance, blanket the landscape in pink and white under the bright blue sky, often with the stunning backdrop of the Tramuntana Mountains. A single blooming almond tree in a semi-wild garden with typical low stone walls and grazing sheep often provides the setting for breathtaking pictures on social media.

Some regions are particularly known for the beauty of the almond blossom during the main flowering season. In the southwest of the island, between Andratx, Port Andratx and S'Arraco, you can admire the lush blooms.

The route a little further north, between Valdemossa and Soller, also offers unforgettable views of a varied landscape during almond blossom season. The region in the southeast, between Santanyi and Felanitx, is also home to countless plantations along the small country roads.
