Majorca holidays: Low pressure area brings snow, storms and 10-metre waves to the holiday island
Dress warmly! Anyone currently flying to Mallorca on holiday should pack warm clothing. A strong low-pressure system has been moving across southern Europe since Tuesday and is also causing a significant deterioration in the weather on Mallorca. While the Balearic Islands recently enjoyed temperatures of around 20 degrees, they plummeted again at the start of the week.
Snow, cold and rain - that’s the current weather situation on the Balearic island.
In addition to cold, snow and rain, the island is also being hit by a violent storm. Weather services are expecting gusts of wind with speeds of up to 120 km/h.
The responsible weather authority, Aemet, has activated the orange warning level for some places in the north and north-east of Mallorca.
In this context, experts are warning of waves up to ten metres high on the north coast on Wednesday evening and Thursday night.
On the north and east coast, the fallen snow has already caused some chasos. A car landed on its roof near Capdepera. In the west - near Valdemossa - progress was slow.

The measuring station in the Tramuntana mountains is currently recording a snow cover of 4 cm.
Temperatures: 7 degrees during the day / down to -3 degrees at night
On particularly exposed stretches of coastline, there is a risk that parts of the shore could be washed over.
The authorities and weather services urgently advise locals and tourists on the Balearic Islands to exercise caution. Anyone planning a walk along the coast should be extremely careful. According to the Spanish weather service Aemet, information on official protective measures should be heeded regularly.
Outlook:
By the weekend, the pendulum in Mallorca will swing in the other direction again. A new area of high pressure will bring rising temperatures and a break from the winter weather.
