Bahamas Eases Cruising Fees with New Short-Term Permits

The The Bahamas has revised its cruising permit system, introducing 30-day and six-month options alongside the existing 12-month license—offering more flexibility for visiting yachts.

30-day permits: from $350 (15.5–30.5 m) and $600 (30.5 m+), no re-entry included
6-month permits: $750 and $2,000, with one free re-entry during the period
12-month permits: unchanged at $1,000–$3,000, now allowing more flexible re-entry within the validity period

Anchoring rules have also shifted. Anchoring permits now apply only outside marinas, starting at $350 for yachts under 30.5 m and $1,500 for larger vessels.

Other costs remain unchanged, including fishing permits, passenger taxes, and AIS requirements. The Frequent Digital Cruising Card (FDCC) still offers unlimited entry for frequent visitors over two years.

The latest update follows strong industry pushback to 2025 fee increases, which impacted yacht traffic in areas like the Abacos. Stakeholders, including the Association of Bahamas Marinas, expect the revised structure to help restore charter activity and visitor numbers across the islands.
