Yacht Charter in Sicily in September

Sicily, the largest island in the Mediterranean, is more than you expect in September. This month is an ideal time to explore this stunning destination by yacht, as the summer crowds have thinned, the weather remains pleasant, and there are interesting festives.

September in Sicily offers the best of both worlds. The temperatures are still warm, averaging between 19°C (66°F) and 26°C (79°F), but without the intense heat of July and August. The sea remains perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and other water activities.

1. Taormina and the Greek Theatre

Begin your Sicilian adventure by anchoring off the coast of Taormina. This charming town is perched high above the Ionian Sea, offering breathtaking views and a wealth of history. Don’t miss the ancient Greek Theatre, which dates back to the third century B.C. and still hosts concerts and events today. The combination of the theatre's historical significance and its stunning location makes it a must-see.
2. Aeolian Islands

A short sail from Sicily’s northern coast, the Aeolian Islands are a volcanic archipelago known for their dramatic landscapes and crystal-clear waters. Explore the island of Lipari, hike up the active volcano on Stromboli, or relax in the therapeutic mud baths of Vulcano. September is an ideal time to visit, as the islands are less crowded, and the weather is perfect for both land and sea exploration.
3. Palermo and Mondello Beach

Sicily’s capital, Palermo, is a vibrant city rich in history, culture, and gastronomy. After exploring the city’s bustling markets, stunning cathedrals, and historic palaces, head to nearby Mondello Beach. This popular spot offers white sand, turquoise waters, and a more relaxed vibe in September, making it the perfect place to unwind.

4. Agrigento and the Valley of the Temples

Sail down the southern coast to Agrigento, home to one of Sicily’s most impressive archaeological sites, the Valley of the Temples. This UNESCO World Heritage site features well-preserved ancient Greek temples set against a backdrop of rolling hills and olive groves. Visiting in September allows you to explore the site in cooler weather, without the summer crowds.
5. Trapani and the Egadi Islands

Further west, the port city of Trapani serves as a gateway to the Egadi Islands. These lesser-known islands offer pristine beaches, secluded coves, and excellent opportunities for diving and snorkeling. Favignana, the largest of the Egadi Islands, is known for its stunning Cala Rossa beach, often ranked among Italy’s best.

September is a festive month in Sicily, with numerous food and wine festivals celebrating the island’s rich culinary traditions. Don’t miss the ViniMilo festival near Mount Etna, which offers wine tastings, food stalls, and cultural events. The CousCous Fest in San Vito Lo Capo is another highlight, bringing together chefs from around the world for a unique culinary competition.
