Samadhi is no ordinary yacht — it carries a history shaped by prominent billionaires, a dash of controversy, and now a new owner tied closely to the yacht-building world.
A Yacht with a Past
Built in 2006 by Feadship and first named April Fool for Wall Street banker Sandy Weill, the 50-metre yacht was later sold and renamed Samadhi. The name, a Sanskrit word often associated with meditation, gave the vessel a serene identity — though headlines were not always tranquil.
When American hedge-fund billionaire Daniel Loeb acquired the yacht, Samadhi sailed into the public eye. In 2020, the vessel damaged part of a coral reef in Belize near the Great Blue Hole, drawing media attention and sparking an official investigation. Loeb publicly apologized, but the incident ensured that Samadhi’s name lingered in news cycles.
The Current Owner
After nearly a decade under Loeb’s ownership, Samadhi was sold in 2023. The new owner is Laurens Last, a Dutch billionaire who has also taken control of Heesen Yachts, one of the Netherlands’ most prestigious shipyards. His purchase of Samadhi underlines both his personal passion for yachting and his growing influence within the yacht industry.
Measuring 50 metres, Samadhi is a prime example of Feadship craftsmanship — elegant lines, spacious interiors, and long-range cruising capability. Even without its headline-making owners, it would stand out as a classic in the world of superyachts.
Yacht Charter rates for Samadhi start at €380,000 per week in the summer (around $446,000), while winter charters begin at $360,000 per week, both plus expenses.
