Archie Law spotted the men drifting in difficulty in Broadford Bay from his home and immediately took his own boat to help. He reached them before the volunteer crew of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), who had been dispatched following an emergency call.

The teenager found the men cold and exhausted, then safely brought them back to shore where they received warm clothes and assistance. No injuries were reported.

RNLI officials praised Archie’s fast response but warned that inflatable toys are not suitable for use in open water. They reminded boaters and swimmers to wear lifejackets and carry a means of contacting emergency services when at sea.
