In Memory of Giorgio Armani and His Influence on the Yacht World
Even after his passing at age 91, Armani’s yachts — Mariù, Maìn, Sørvind, and the Admiral collaborations — remain floating symbols of his philosophy.
In September 2025, the world bid farewell to Giorgio Armani, the Italian designer who transformed fashion and left a lasting imprint on the world of luxury yachting. Born in Piacenza in 1934, Armani built one of the most recognizable brands in the world, expanding from clothing into fragrance, hospitality, interiors — and superyachts.
From Fashion to Yachting
Through his Armani/Casa design studio, Armani carried his minimalist style into yacht interiors. Unimpressed with flashy charter yachts, he instead created vessels that reflected his philosophy: clean lines, muted palettes, and understated elegance.
Armani’s Own Yachts
Armani’s passion for the sea was reflected in his personal fleet:
Mariù (2003) – His first yacht, a 49.9-metre Codecasa, named after his mother Maria.
Maìn (2008) – His flagship, a 65-metre Codecasa superyacht, remained Armani’s primary superyact until his passing.
Sørvind (2010s) – A 38-metre sailing yacht by Southern Wind Shipyards, used for regattas and eco-conscious cruising.
Together, these yachts showcased Armani’s ability to blend functionality, privacy, and timeless elegance into maritime design.
Armani as Yacht Designer
Armani’s contribution to the yacht world was not limited to ownership. His Armani/Casa design team collaborated with The Italian Sea Group on bespoke interiors and exteriors for multiple superyacht projects, most notably the Admiral 72m series.
Admiral 72 “After You” (2025) – Launched at the Monaco Yacht Show, featuring Armani/Casa interiors with a mix of Black Marquinia marble, Canaletto walnut, and gold details.
Admiral S-Force “Silver Star” (55.2m) – Another collaboration, showcasing Armani’s touch in sleek, custom-designed interiors.
These projects extended Armani’s design philosophy into yachting at the highest level, reinforcing the connection between couture and superyacht living.
Commitment to Yachting Culture
Armani was not only a yacht owner and designer but also an active supporter of yachting culture. In 2022, he became the title sponsor of the Giorgio Armani Superyacht Regatta, held annually in Sardinia by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda. The event, one of the most prestigious in the Mediterranean, continues to highlight his enduring influence on the sport.
