Sailing and Wine Tasting Combine Seamlessly in Bozcaada

If you have sailed to Turkey but know nothing about Bozcaada, don’t blame yourself. Bozcaada is one of the coolest destinations that most Turkish people are aware of. It's not kept a secret, but it's not often mentioned either.

Bozcaada, located in the northern part of the Aegean Sea, is known for its serene landscapes and world-class vineyards. The population of the island varies between 5000-10,000, with tourists flocking in during the summer. In winter, the population can drop to 1000.

Mostly Turkish people visit this island and its neighboring island Gökçeada. Gökçeada is larger and quieter than Bozcaada. Both islands are situated between Greece and Turkey.

If you sail to Bozcaada, you can follow the route below:

Sail from Bozcaada to Kabatepe, a wide and secure port, and then proceed to Gökçeada. As seen on the following map, which is from www.openseamap.org.

The best time to visit Bozcaada is the first week of September—a time when the sea temperature is warmer, and the island hosts both the Vintage Festival and the Jazz Festival simultaneously.

Vintage Festival Extravaganza:

The heart of Bozcaada beats to the lively rhythm of the Vintage Festival, commencing in the first week of September. The festivities kick off with a symbolic vintage organized by the island's passionate wine producers. Together with festival-goers, they embark on a journey to the vineyards, picking grapes, and embracing tradition.

Bozcaada locals actively participate in the festivities, offering homemade wines, jams, jewelry, and an array of unique products that reflect the island's authentic charm.

The Vintage Festival isn't just about grapes; it's a celebration of Bozcaada's cultural identity. Concerts, competitions, and vibrant events fill the island with energy. Among the highlights are the Miss Grape and Sergeant Grape competitions, where the island's young women are honored for their contributions to the festivities.

Bozcaada is easily accessible by ferry from Çanakkale.
