Yes, the Mediterranean is ideal for sailing because of its calm waters, beautiful coastlines, historic ports, and good weather conditions for most of the year.
What is the weather like to sail the Mediterranean?
The summer normally brings sun and regular winds, such as the Meltemi in the Aegean or the Mistral in the West Med. But expect, at times, unexpected squalls or strong localized winds near mountainous coasts. The winters are less predictable with worse storms and heavier seas and cold temperature.
When NOT to sail in the Mediterranean?
It’s best to avoid sailing in late autumn and winter (November to February) because of frequent storms, strong winds, and rough seas. These months are not good especially for less experienced sailors.

The best months for sailing and sailboat rental are May through October, with the peak conditions found in June, July, and August, when the weather is warm, winds are reliable, and seas are calm. Early fall, September to October, is also great for comfortable temperatures and fewer crowds.
