In line with their commitment to the environment, Les Canalous have decided to set up an electric fleet. This is how the first model of the " ELECTRIQUE " fleet was built: LaPéniche S.
This new boat model is 100% electric and deeply rooted in the 21st century. LaPéniche S is silent, environmentally friendly and in line with a responsible, environmentally friendly tourism concept.
Thanks to a traditional swing, the LaPéniche S will blend perfectly into the green landscapes of France. The large bay windows and the sunroof offer incredible light on board and a unique view of the surrounding nature. The boat has 5 cabins. Each has its own 220V socket and 2 USB sockets. 4 showers and 4 toilets are available on board. This boat is the ideal model for large groups or 5 couples. LaPéniche S is also equipped with solar panels that compensate the energy consumption of the two refrigerators.
Where can I drive with LaPéniche S ?
LaPéniche S is offered in Alsace-Lorraine from Waltenheim sur Zorn and Languimberg. Round trips and one-way trips are possible. Here you have a perfect opportunity to discover a beautiful and picturesque region, which is also one of the culinary highlights of France !
The control
Like all boats of the Canalous fleet, the boat LaPéniche S can be rented without a licence. The hybrid steering position and the electric sunroof offer the pilot maximum comfort (the equipment is the same as that presented on board the LaPeniche P in 2018): it is possible to take the helm both indoors and outdoors without having to change seats.
With the side glass wall and the electric sunroof you can easily reach the side access and also steer the boat better. It is now possible to control the manoeuvres by holding a hand on the bar to correct its trajectory.
How does a boat with an electric motor work ?
This new 100% electric boat concept allows a navigation autonomy of at least 6 hours, which corresponds to a full day of autonomy.
The VNF (Voies navigables de France) has installed 10 fast charging stations along the route, making it possible to charge the batteries in a maximum of 2 to 3 hours. This does not affect the day of navigation and the batteries can be recharged during lunch breaks, walks, water refuelling, tourist stops, etc.
For example, you can spend the night in the middle of nature, the batteries are sufficiently charged to ensure the necessary electrical autonomy for your evening and night on board.
The use of these fast charging stations is reserved exclusively for electric boats. Priority access is granted to the crews of the LaPéniche S electric boat. They will appreciate the easy operation of these stations via the touch screen (different languages available): French, English, German and Spanish) .
During the whole stay it is also possible to recharge on the "classic" bollards available in the ports. They can be used, for example, to charge the batteries during a night on the quay.
A mandatory daily recharging fee of 45€, which guarantees priority access to the fast charging stations, is charged at the time of booking. At the time of connection to these fast charging stations, no further surcharges are levied (the daily charging fee does not include overnight stays in the ports nor connection to the "classic" charging stations).
LaPéniche S is also equipped with a generator. This allows an increase of the autonomy of the boat or a greater comfort and the use of the 220V on board.
